I am becoming more of myself, I am becoming who I was created to be.
A Check Up
This week is a check up. We are going to talk about daily detox again, because it is as important as the food, and because this is the piece that quietly slips away first.
I want you to read this with a pencil in your hand. By the end I want you to know exactly which of your daily methods are still in place, which ones have gone missing, and what you are going to do about it this week.
Why We Detox Every Single Day
When we eat this way, we are not only nourishing the body, we are giving it permission to start letting things go. The foods we eat, the stock, the fats, the organ meats, the ferments, the yolks, all of them hand the body the raw materials it has been waiting for. The moment the body has what it needs, it begins housecleaning. That is what we want and it is also why we must help.
The systems that were designed to move toxins out, the liver, the kidneys, the bowel, the lymph, the skin and the lungs, are the same systems that were damaged by the toxins in the first place. They are working with a backlog. Even a healthy modern human cannot keep up with the load we carry now, because our exposure is nothing like the exposure our ancestors had. Unless we all move to the forest and live in wooden huts on dirt floors, we are going to need to assist.
Here is the part I want you to really hear. The body does not release what it cannot move out. If the exits are closed, the body holds on, and it is right to hold on, because releasing a toxin it cannot escort out of the body would harm you. So when healing feels stalled, it is very often not the food and not your effort, it is the exits.
And when you feel awful, headachy, foggy, aching, nauseated, irritable, sleepless, itchy, that is usually not a sign that healing has gone wrong. It is a sign that something has been mobilised and is sitting in traffic. Detox is how we open the road.
This Is Meant To Be Gentle And Daily
I want to say this clearly because there is so much noise out there. We are not doing aggressive cleanses, teas, kits, or anything that shocks the system. We are doing small, ancestral, repeatable things every single day, the things the body already recognises and knows what to do with. Your body has no idea it is not a hunter-gatherer anymore. It knows sunlight, water, bare earth, warmth, sweat, sleep, fat, rest and movement.
Gentle and daily beats heroic and occasional every time. Daily also means daily on the good days. Most people stop their detox once they feel well, and then wonder some months later why things crept back. The load never stops arriving, so the support does not stop either.
Your Daily Check Up
Go through these one at a time and be honest with yourself. Not to grade yourself and certainly not to feel guilty, only to see clearly.
The Bath
Am I taking my detox baths? Epsom salt, cider vinegar, seaweed powder, mineral salt, and baking soda, rotated as you prefer, working up to one cup. Each one has its own purpose, and each one does something different for you. The baking soda bath relaxes the muscles and is helpful for fungal or yeast issues. If one of them irritates your skin, leave it out of the rotation for a while and add it back later, once more healing has happened.
Am I using filtered, spring or well water? If I cannot filter, am I adding a teaspoon of vitamin C powder and a teaspoon of bentonite clay to neutralise the chlorine and fluoride? Do I know that a foot bath counts if I have no tub, and that more than one bath a day is allowed when my body is asking for it?
The Sun
Am I getting outside, morning or afternoon, and am I working toward two hours or more? Are my eyes seeing the light, without sunglasses, so that my melanin production happens the way it should? Melanin is a free radical scavenger, and building it is one of the quiet gifts of sunbathing. Am I doing this year round, and not only in the warm months? The more unwell you are, the more sun you need, and I will not budge on that one.
The Earth
Am I putting my bare feet on the bare ground? Grounding lowers inflammation, improves blood flow, raises energy and improves sleep, and it costs nothing at all. Am I barefoot outside as often as I can be, and am I doing it year round as I tolerate it? The tenderness in your soles goes away faster than you think.
Castor Oil
Am I using castor oil, either as a pack over the liver or simply rubbed into the skin? Castor oil improves circulation, supports the lymphatic system and assists detoxification. Am I working my way up slowly toward an overnight pack? Is my oil in a dark glass bottle and stored in a dark place? Is my flannel or cotton cloth clean and free of toxins, and am I keeping it in the fridge to reuse? On the days a pack feels like too much, rubbing the oil in still counts.
Sleep
Am I asleep by nine? Do I have an evening routine without screens and without bright electric light? Sleep is when the body paralyses itself so that it can clean and repair, and there is no supplement that replaces it. We are the only creature that forces itself to stay awake, and our bodies pay for it. If sleep is difficult right now, be patient with it and keep the routine steady anyway, because the routine is what teaches the body when to expect rest.
The Bowel
Am I having a bowel movement every day? If not, am I doing an enema on the days I do not? When waste sits in the body, we are becoming more toxic by the hour, and everything upstream backs up behind it. No one wants to do them and nearly everyone benefits from them. As the gut heals, you will need them less and less.
Iodine
Am I taking my iodine daily? Our thyroid, breasts and reproductive organs depend on it, and we do not get enough of it from food. Lugol’s only, painted on the skin or taken internally, and remember that the two routes do behave differently. Iodine is an antioxidant, it binds heavy metals so they can leave, and it clears toxic halides such as chlorine and bromine.
The Food Itself
Am I still eating the core foods, or have they quietly thinned out? Liver, raw yolks, meat stock, animal fats and fermented foods are daily detox, not just nutrition. Am I putting mineral water on my tongue before I drink my water? Am I drinking lemon water first thing in the morning? Am I having beet kvass, since beets are so supportive to the liver?
Movement, Breath And Water
Am I moving my body gently every day, so that my lymph has a reason to move? Lymph has no pump of its own, it moves when I move, so a walk, a stretch, a rebound, a bit of housework in the sunshine all count. Am I breathing well, slowly and through my nose, since the lungs are an exit too? Am I actually drinking my water, and is it water my body recognises?
When Something Feels Off
If you have had a rough week, go back through that list before you go looking for a new protocol. Nine times out of ten, something on that list has gone missing. The bath got skipped because the week was busy, the sun got skipped because it was cold, the enema got skipped because we were embarrassed, the bedtime slid an hour later and then another. None of that means you have failed and none of it means you have gone backwards. It means the exits narrowed while the release kept going, and the fix is to open them again.
Add back one thing, not eight. Give it a few days, watch what your body says, and then add the next. If you feel unwell after adding something, that is information, not a verdict. Make it smaller, slow down, and keep the exits open while you do.
A Word About Doing Too Much
There is a version of this work that becomes its own kind of stress, and I want to name it. If your detox has become a checklist you are afraid of, it has stopped being medicine. The nervous system is part of detox too, and a frantic bath does not do what a peaceful bath does. Take the bath because your body deserves the rest, stand in the sun because it feels good on your face, put your feet on the ground because the earth is a gift. Consecrate these things. They are ordinary and they are sacred, and they are doing far more for you than you can feel on any given day.
This Week
Choose the one method on this list that has gone missing the longest and bring it back first. Write it somewhere you will see it, and give it a time of day so it has a home in your rhythm. Then look at your week and see where the second one could fit.
You are not behind. You are a whole person doing a long and beautiful work, and the small, daily, faithful things are what carry it. I am so proud of you all.
