Focus:
Compassion for ourselves and our bodies and approaching communications from the body with curiosity and neutrality.
Repetition:
I do not have the entire picture of what my body is doing, I only have my perception which is not always correct.
I have immense compassion for what my body is doing with the tools it has been given.
Love Is Letting Go of Fear
The homework for the next week is to read the book “Love is Letting Go of Fear” by Gerald Jampolsky. You may purchase it or access it for free on Internet Archive.
Love is Letting Go of Fear — Internet Archive
After you read it, apply it. There are clear instructions in this simple but powerful, little book. This is going to assist with your limbic work along with creating thought patterns that move away from negativity and help us to live in a neutral or compassionate state.
As we prepare to do our intensive gut healing part of the protocol, we will learn why we will do things the way we will do them! Also incorporate this playlist in your daily routine, I personally love to listen while I cook and prepare things we will need for the day! It is not about musical taste, it is a powerful addition to our limbic work, please sing aloud as often as possible.
Moving into the Soup Phase
We will eat a lot of very soft foods and a lot of meat stock, we will only have soup for a time. We will move into ketosis, which is an anti-illness state of health. We will short-cook all stock for an hour and a half, not counting the period of coming to a boil or the cooling-off period. We will cook all veggies in stock, simmering for 20 minutes or more. We will take a break from baking and pan frying.
The purpose of the beginning of this protocol is to ease into the soup phase. We learn to view food differently, we experience some microbiome shifts and we increase our fats, improve insulin issues, reduce cravings and move into a space of teaching our bodies that they are safe and will have the nutrients they need.
After a few months of the intensive healing, we will begin to plant microbes back into our microbiome. We will not be changing anything that we have implemented so far outside of the food. Our microbiome is not limited to our gut, as you know at this point!
The Microbiome and Digestive Integrity
This week, we will be focusing on the microbiome and integrity of our digestive system. Our gut is estimated to be as large or larger than a tennis court! The biofilm/mucosa in our gut is incredibly important as that is where our microbes live and it includes a protective layer of mucous produced by our cells and aided by our microbes. We know very little about the microbiome in our digestive system but we are learning how crucial ALL of our microbes are and how many the modern human is missing!
Our microbiota is protective and we want to restore it to the best of our ability and to regenerate the human cells in our digestive system. We want to be able to chelate and detox toxins, have great digestion, create and absorb nutrients, make the hormones produced by the gut, produce neurotransmitters, have a healthy immune and nervous system and all the incredibly important jobs that our gut does for us.
This Is Not Your Fault
If you are here, chances are you have had an inappropriate diet for most of your life, even if you ate nothing but whole foods and included a lot of vegetables with plant toxins and seeds and had low fat and no ferments, or you ate the standard American diet and anything in between. This alone is enough to cause dysbiosis but add in lack of sunlight, too much stress and just being a human that is post-industrial revolution and your gut simply needs some extra attention!
Please know this is nothing you have done wrong! We were all educated incorrectly about food and what our bodies actually need to rebuild and regenerate, the world of diet and lifestyle has been confusing for generations. We have not understood food and the true human diet for a long time, you did not know, your parents and grandparents did not know either.
Allow neutrality and curiosity to move in anywhere you may find anger, disappointment, regret, resentment or sadness. Allow time to grieve. Keep in mind that emotion takes about 90 seconds to move through the body. Just feel it and try not to give it a story or explain it and then move the body or cry, even if you have no tears. The “silent scream” is excellent for difficult feelings of frustration or anger.
Leaky Gut and Food Allergies
Our gut lining has often been compromised and we have leaky gut which allows bits of food to go into our bloodstream where it is no longer recognised as food but as inflammation and allergens. Blood tests for food allergies simply tell us what foods we have eaten as they are in our bloodstream and now have become an allergen. Food allergies are just a symptom of leaky gut, not a sign that you cannot eat that food in the future.
The Small Intestine
Our small intestine is where nutrients are absorbed. The parts of the small intestine are the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. The duodenum receives partially digested food or chyme from the stomach and mixes it with digestive enzymes from the pancreas and the liver and is responsible for the majority of chemical digestion and absorption of minerals. The jejunum follows and continues the process of absorption, particularly carbohydrates and proteins. The ileum is last and absorbs water, electrolytes, bile salts, B12 and remaining nutrients.
These are all covered internally with villi, little finger-like protrusions. Each villus is covered with smaller protrusions called microvilli which are covered by epithelial cells that absorb nutrients, capillaries that carry some absorbed nutrients and lacteals that carry fats into the lymphatic system.
When we are missing necessary microbes, the enterocytes change their shape and cannot have a complete life cycle. If they cannot do their job, we have undigested food molecules that feed microbial overgrowth/pathogens and allow molecules of undigested protein such as those from casein and gluten causing an opiate effect in the brain. Fat is absorbed well even when enterocytes are damaged which is one of the reasons we eat plenty of fat in the protocol.
This is a very broad view of the small intestine and the villi which are damaged by many of our modern foods and lifestyle. We want to restore our digestive system and to do that we must give it a rest and restore it with meat stock. Meat stock rebuilds the gut lining better than any other food. The cooking methods we use and the foods we eat will give our gut a little vacation.
This is such an exciting part of the protocol and you will notice even more healing! You are on the path to becoming resilient and a great lover of soups!
