Focus:
Slowing down, softening and being present for the purpose of healing our nervous system.
Repetition:
My nervous system is precious.
I promise to move slowly.
I promise to soften.
I promise to practice being present and purposeful.
We are going to learn to connect with our bodies. It is common to be disconnected from the body but it is a necessary part of recovery to be present with your body and what it is telling you. You can utilize an online body scan meditation or you can begin the practice using images and your own voice. I imagine the Light of Christ illuminating and healing each body part and system and repeat The Light of Christ is healing the toes on my right foot, etc. It is helpful to do in the morning and while falling asleep. Throughout the day take a few moments to connect with your body by noticing what it is doing and narrating to yourself. My feet are flat on the floor, my bottom is on the couch, my hands are cooking dinner, and so on. Use these moments to soften: My eyebrows are furrowed, let me invite them to soften. Use the moments to slow down and be present: I am hurrying through this task, let me invite myself to move slower and be present with my task at hand. Begin to notice what your body is doing in different situations. Are your shoulders tightening while waiting in line at the store? Can you take this time to soften? Breathe deeply, count all the red things you see, smile at another person, pray for someone, etc? Let’s really pay attention to our bodies and learn what it is that they are communicating to us.
Make sure you are offering your body safety throughout the day. Consider the following examples:
- outside time
- calming music
- humming or singing
- gentle movement
- smiling
- doing one task in slow motion
- being present with food and chewing well
- breathing deeply
Believe in your body’s ability to regenerate, truly love and appreciate your body.
Make an overnight roast
Choose a roast that is fatty and bone-in. Place it in a pan with a nice covering of mineral salt and add a cup of water. Place the lid on the pan and put oven on lowest setting overnight. Serve the roast with the juices in the pan for dipping.
Utilize tallow for skin cream
If it feels too “greasy” for you, mix with a little kefir in your hands to make a lotion. Your skin is a beautiful way to bring in extra nutrients.
Iodine
Purchase Lugol’s Iodine in bulk, or begin with a few smaller bottles. Look at our article. If you have Hashimoto’s, you will want to do the salt loading for a month instead of two weeks and supplement with acerola cherry as well. When you begin iodine, take the acerola cherry away from iodine by a couple of hours. There is debate on whether this is necessary and some people say that iodine and vitamin C are fine to take together, so you can choose what is best for you. If you want to only paint the iodine on your skin, you can do that instead. Some may potentially find that supplementing with Thyro-gold is needed. Go as slowly as you like with iodine but there is no need to be hesitant to add this in, as it is an essential mineral.
Closing Thoughts
Connecting with your body AND adding in iodine is a lot of change. Be gentle and incorporate these over time. No need to rush!
